Abstract The University of Michigan (UM) Medical School has
assembled a multidisciplinary team of investigators to plan and implement
a Next Generation Internet (NGI) production system to interactively serve
Visible Human (VH) image and knowledge data objects derived from arbitrary
cut planes of full resolution, as well as datasets derived using image/knowledge
fusion techniques. Delivered to standard user workstations, this interactive
system would realize the "supercomputer on the desktop" capability of the
NGI vision. In addition, anatomical data evaluation software will be provided
to the user. A preliminary study for the evaluation of components for such
a system was performed during a 24-month period. Data from this study and
conclusions are presented.
