Location: Front and side of the Library, Building 38
The trees surrounding the National Library of Medicine are Crabapple trees of the Malus Arnoldiana variety. Rapid growers, they reach a height of 20 feet but are broad and spreading to about 30 feet wide with long, arching branches. Red flower buds open to 2-inch pink flowers that fade to white, and yellow and red half-inch fruits ripen in early fall. The trees usually are at the height of color in early May.
