AD 1590: Spain attacks pueblos; establishes colony at Ohkay Owingeh
Spanish forces under colonial governor Juan de OƱate march north from Mexico through the Rio Grande valley. The Apaches and Puebloans drive them back, but Spaniards establish a colony at Ohkay Owingeh, a pueblo about 25 miles from what is now known as Santa Fe, New Mexico.
