1805: Tenskwatawa and Tecumseh call for unity among tribes
With the Shawnee under siege, fragmented, and dispersed, Lalawithika has a spiritual revelation that begins an influential movement among many tribes. He changes his name to Tenskwatawa, the Open Door, and preaches that tribes should take care of each other, and work together against the pressure of U.S. expansion. His brother, Tecumseh (b. ca. 1768–d. 1813), builds a political and military confederacy based on the idea that Native peoples must unify to resist U.S. expansion.
