1986: Native Hawaiian and Western-trained health professionals ally

Dr. Richard Kekuni Blaisdell starts the organization E Ola Mau, later incorporated under its first president, Dr. Chiyome Fukon, to bring together Native Hawaiian traditional practitioners and Western-trained health professionals. The Office of Hawaiian Affairs with ALU LIKE Inc., a Native Hawaiian advocacy group, and E Ola Mau sponsor a historic convening of Native Hawaiian traditional healers and medical doctors.

The meeting is called ‘Aha Kupuna La‘au Lapa‘au.
