NNLM Webinar: Five Questions You Can Answer with NCBI Protein and Structure Databases

NNLM Webinar: Five Questions You Can Answer with NCBI Protein and Structure Databases. NLM Tech Bull. 2017 Jul-Aug;(417):b2.

2017 July 03 [posted]

On July 26, 2017, the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) will present the Webinar, "Five Questions you can answer with NCBI Protein and Structure Databases."

Protein sequences are the fundamental determinants of biological structure and function. This Webinar shows how to use the Protein and Structure Databases from NCBI to find information about the biological structure and function of proteins.

In this Webinar, you will learn about the Protein and Structure databases and how to use them to answer the following questions*:

  • How can I find a RefSeq protein of interest?
  • How can I find the NCBI Reference Genomic Sequence, transcript, and protein sequence for a given gene and organism?
  • How do I retrieve all structures from a particular organism?
  • How can I find 3D structures bound to a specific chemical (e.g., aspirin)?
  • How can I retrieve and view a 3D structure for a specific type of molecule (e.g., protein, RNA, DNA)?

A basic familiarity with genetics vocabulary will be helpful in understanding this Webinar. For a review, see The New Genetics, an educational booklet by the National Institute of General Medical Sciences (NIGMS).
