RxNorm July 2020 Release Available. NLM Tech Bull. 2020 Jul-Aug;(435):b1.
The RxNorm July monthly release became available for download on Monday, July 6, 2020. Highlights of the July release include a new NHRIC attribute in the MTHSPL data source, a new dose form, and changes in representing multi-ingredient biological products. See details below.
Data Changes
New NHRIC Attribute in RXNSAT.RRF for MTHSPL
National Health Related Item Code (NHRIC) values are now identified separately from National Drug Code (NDC) values for the FDA Structured Product Labeling (MTHSPL) data source in the RxNorm data set. The attribute name (ATN) in the RXNSAT.RRF file is NHRIC where the source abbreviation (SAB) is MTHSPL. This change is for SAB=MTHSPL only. Note that an ATN=NHRIC for SAB=RXNORM will not exist. Approximately 640 values are impacted in the RXNSAT.RRF file.
New Dose Form
The July 2020 release includes the new dose form: Powder for Pyelocalyceal Solution.
Below are the new prescribable drug names with the new dose form Powder for Pyelocalyceal Solution.
RXCUI | TTY | STRING |
2375818 | SCD | mitomycin 40 MG Powder for Pyelocalyceal Solution |
2375823 | SBD | mitomycin 40 MG Powder for Pyelocalyceal Solution [Jelmyto] |
Representing Multi-Ingredient Biological Products
For multi-ingredient biological products, the suffix will be added to each active ingredient. An ingredient with a suffix will be a precise ingredient (PIN) to its appropriate base ingredient (IN) atom.
Below are the new prescribable drug names for combination biological products:
RXCUI | TTY | STRING |
2119714 | SCD | 5 ML hyaluronidase-oysk 2000 UNT/ML / trastuzumab-oysk 120 MG/ML Injection |
2119719 | SBD | 5 ML hyaluronidase-oysk 2000 UNT/ML / trastuzumab-oysk 120 MG/ML Injection [Herceptin Hylecta] |
2375136 | SCD | 15 ML daratumumab-fihj 120 MG/ML / hyaluronidase-fihj 2000 UNT/ML Injection |
2375141 | SBD | 15 ML daratumumab-fihj 120 MG/ML / hyaluronidase-fihj 2000 UNT/ML Injection [Darzalex Faspro] |
Continued Reduction in Active National Drug Codes (NDCs)
RxNorm continues to improve the quality of NDC data by identifying NDCs that are no longer active. Users will likely see a reduction in approximately 1,125 live NDCs in the July release. The SUPPRESS value for these NDCs in the RXNSAT.RRF file will change from SUPPRESS = ‘N’ to SUPPRESS = ‘Y’ compared to last month’s release.
