Data Changes

Qualitative Distinction
Qualitative Distinction modifiers allow flexibility in the RxNorm model to create new RXCUIs as needed. Please see the technical documentation for more information about Qualitative Distinctions (QDs), which were first released in the August 2016 monthly release.

Here are the new concepts with QDs in the April release:

RXCUITTYString
2001564SCDBX Rating 24 HR Methylphenidate Hydrochloride 18 MG Extended Release Oral Tablet
2001565SCDBX Rating 24 HR Methylphenidate Hydrochloride 27 MG Extended Release Oral Tablet
2001566SCDBX Rating 24 HR Methylphenidate Hydrochloride 36 MG Extended Release Oral Tablet
2001568SCDBX Rating 24 HR Methylphenidate Hydrochloride 54 MG Extended Release Oral Tablet

For each SCD or SBD with a QD, there is an associated attribute in RXNSAT with the attribute name (ATN) of 'RXN_QUALITATIVE_DISTINCTION'. The April release contains the following new attribute value (ATV) to match the QD strings found in the SCD and SBD normalized names:

NDF-RT/MED-RT Reminder (with updated MED-RT information webpage)
The Veterans Health Administration (VHA) replaced its National Drug File-Reference Terminology (NDF-RT) with Medication Reference Terminology (MED-RT) in early March 2018. The last release of NDF-RT is in the RxNorm full March release and will remain in the RxNorm full monthly releases for the next several months. There are no plans to include MED-RT in RxNorm; however, MED-RT will be included in the UMLS Metathesaurus along with RxNorm and its source vocabularies. For information about MED-RT, go to the Federal Medications Terminology webpage.
