Visualization of Human Anatomy
We are in a process of generating a collection
of 3D anatomical models while working on specific applications [2]
[5]. To do this, we have developed our own
3D visualization tools to process the Visible Human data [4].
For example, our interactive lesson on the pelvic region [5]
required us to extract fifteen 3D models of anatomical structures from
that region, [Figure 5],
[Figure 6].
[Figure 7].
The assorted collection of 3D models will form a ``Gallery
of 3D structures''. We plan to create a complete ``3D map'' of human
body, of the VH male and the VH female, where every ``visible structure''
will be surface-based and textured with the true color of its tissue. It
will be necessary to develop a query language which when linked to our
underlying ontology, will be used to browse the 3D map of the human anatomy
and produce meaningful views for given applications.
