There are multiple methods in VSAC for users, authors, and stewards to view, compare, and track value set changes.
- Value Set Comparison Tool
- Value Set Audit Log
- Value Set Review Status
- Value Set Metadata Changes in the Authoring Tool
VSAC Comparison Tool
Use the VSAC Comparison Tool to see side-by-side comparisons of different versions of a value set’s definition, expansion, metadata and code changes. Each of these comparisons provide the user with the ability to generate an exportable report.
- View a value set’s metadata changes, side by side, between two different value set definition or expansion versions. Note that only a value set’s author or steward may view and compare the value set’s definition versions. Click the green Export Comparison button to download a spreadsheet of your results. See VSAC Comparison Tool for full documentation.
- View a value set’s code changes side by side, between two different value set definition or expansion versions. Click the green Export Comparison button to download a spreadsheet of your results. See VSAC Comparison Tool for full documentation.
Value Set Audit Log
The Value Set Audit Log (also known as a change log report) provides a report for author and stewards of a value set to review time/date stamps for all updates to the value set’s definition, expansion, and metadata, along with the specific author or steward group members who made the changes. All columns of the downloadable spreadsheet are sortable and searchable.
Access a value set’s audit log
In the VSAC Authoring tab, select one of your authored or stewarded value sets, and click on the Audit Log link in the left sidebar of the value set.
In your downloaded audit log spreadsheet, you will find the following column headings:
- Data Context (Definition, Expansion, Metadata)
- Operation (Examples according to data context: Approved a proposed definition; Edited a draft definition; Updated value set metadata)
- Updated Date (Indicates when the definition, expansion or metadata was last updated by the author or steward)
- Updated By
- Notes
Value Set Review Status
See Value Set Status documentation for more details. We have extracted this section’s text from the Value Set Status documentation for your convenience:
The “Review/Maintenance” tab in Authoring allows authors and stewards to see the status of a value set definition and its maintenance history. The Review/Maintenance tab includes the following information:
- Last Reviewed: Indicates the last date on which the author or steward reviewed the value set metadata, definition, or expansion and determined no updates or changes were necessary. It will show the date of the last VSAC annual maintenance review, which determines whether VSAC will send the maintenance notification email to the author and steward.
- Last Reviewed By: Indicates the author or steward who last reviewed the value set metadata, definition, or expansion.
- Value Set Definition Review Status table: Indicates the review status for published value set definition versions.
- Value Set Review/Maintenance History table: Shows the history of changes made to the value set.
View Metadata Changes in the Authoring Tool
In addition to metadata changes that users can view in the VSAC Comparison Tool, as mentioned above, authors and stewards can also view these metadata changes, their dates, and the person who made the changes, in the Value Set Metadata History table of the Metadata tab for each value set in the Authoring Tool: purpose statement edits, changes to the value set title, note, and author/steward groups, and the date on which each change occurred.
Click on a specific date to view changes.
