AD 400: Marquesan Islanders sail north to Hawai‘i
People from the Marquesas Islands arrive in the Hawaiian Islands and settle there but continue to sail back and forth between the island chains. Archaeological evidence indicates that their travels were part of a trade network through which they sold poi pounders and mother-of-pearl items made from large shells.
