Letter to Pope A. Lawrence, from John D. Porterfield, May 15, 1957

In 1957, Assistant Surgeon General John Porterfield asked PHS scientist Pope A. Lawrence to identify “the major health problems of this period.”
In later years, Lawrence played pivotal roles in coordinating environmental health research at the PHS.
