An operating room at Freedmen's Hospital, ca. 1903

Freedmen’s Hospital in Washington, D.C. was established in 1862 and became the official teaching hospital for Howard University College of Medicine in 1868. It was renamed Howard University Hospital in 1975 and continues to function as the teaching hospital for Howard.
