Announcement - Changes in the March 2024 US Edition release
Deprecation of the Route of administration reference set from the US Edition release package
The Route of Administration refset is being deprecated from the US Edition release package, as of the September 2023 US Edition release onwards.
The concept "442311000124105 |Route of administration reference set (foundation metadata concept)|" + relates components (including the refsetDescriptor record) will remain active, however all 144 records that comprise this refset will be inactivated in the SimpleRefset file: der2_Refset_SimpleSnapshot_US1000124_20230901.txt
In order to preserve the historical audit trail within the US Edition release package, the records will be inactivated (set the "active=0") rather than being deleted from the package completely.
The Route of Administration reference set is still accessible as an intensional value set in the Value Set Authority Center (VSAC): https://vsac.nlm.nih.gov/valueset/2.16.840.1.113762.1.4.1018.98/expansion

Announcement - Changes in the March 2023 US Edition release
Notice of changes to the US Edition Release package and Transitive Closure Resources package naming convention
As of the March 2023 Release of the US Edition onwards, the RF2 package and the Transitive Closure Resources package naming convention will be changing from:
- SnomedCT_USEditionRF2_PRODUCTION_[date]T[time]Z.zip
- SnomedCT_TransitiveClosureResourcesRF2_PRODUCTION_[date]T[time]Z.zip
...to the following:
- SnomedCT_ManagedServiceUS_PRODUCTION_US1000124_[date]T[time]Z.zip
- SnomedCT_ManagedServiceUSTransitiveClosure_PRODUCTION_US1000124_[date]T[time]Z.zip
For the March 2023 US Edition Release, for example, the RF2 package and the Transitive Closure Resources package will be called:
- SnomedCT_ManagedServiceUS_PRODUCTION_US1000124_20230301T120000Z.zip
- SnomedCT_ManagedServiceUSTransitiveClosure_PRODUCTION_US1000124_20230301T120000Z.zip
Note: The change to the naming convention only effects the zip package name and the top two folders in the unzipped package. No other folder or file name contained in the release package will be impacted.
Notice of changes to the US Edition Module Dependency Refset Specifications
There has been discussion on the Module Dependency Refset Specifications (MDRS) records regarding dependencies not being transitive, meaning that they cannot be inferred from a chain of dependencies. For example, if module-A depends on module-B and module-B depends on module-C, the dependency of module-A on module-C must still be stated explicitly. This has not been resolved by SNOMED International, as their recent deliberations regarding the possibility of changing the specifications to make MDRS records transitive have concluded that so far, the business case for doing so is not strong enough. Therefore, the US Edition of SNOMED CT still, in theory, has missing MDRS records which should explicitly call out the dependency of the ICD-10CM map module on both Core International modules. As the new automated MDRS functionality also generates these records, it was decided to allow their introduction until SNOMED International decides to change the RF2 specifications. These records have been included in the September 2022 US Edition release by allowing the automated MDRS generation code to add 2 new records to the US Edition MDRS, explicitly calling out the dependency of the ICD-10CM map module on both Core International modules:

Announcement -
- Changes in the March 2022 US Edition release
SNOMED International are transitioning to a monthly delivery schedule for the International Edition of SNOMED CT. This transition will necessarily involve a few changes to process/packages:
- Delta files have been removed from both International and Managed Service release packages, including the US Edition. A Delta Generation service will be provided for those who need it. The Delta Generation Tool allows users to create their own Delta between two fixed release dates - you can find it here: https://github.com/IHTSDO/delta-generator-tool/releases
- There is no longer any need to separate the Map files from the International Edition - the ICD-0/ICD-10 Maps will continue to be published in each Monthly International Edition release package (in line with that month's content) for the foreseeable future, unless we experience issues with the new process in Production, and they need to be removed at a later date.
The first monthly Release of the SNOMED CT International Edition is currently planned for the 28th February 2022, however the Delta files have been removed from the International Edition from the January 2022 Release, and from the US Edition from the March 2022 Release onwards.
- Significant changes in the September 2021 US Edition release
Concrete Domains launch
Following on from the successful technical previews of the impending Concrete Domains changes, released in September 2020 and February 2021 respectively, SNOMED International implemented these changes in the July 2021 International Edition Production release. This constituted drug concept strengths and counts expressed as concrete values in a new Relationships file.
These files have therefore been propagated through into the September 2021 US Edition release package.
- Inferred Relationship file changes:
- All relationships for values of strength and count for medical products inactivated
- All relationships for attributes of strength and count for medicinal products inactivated
- New relationships for new concept model data attributes of strength, count, product name, and supplier for medicinal products will be added
- Stated OWL Axiom file changes:
- Existing drug concept axioms updated to use concrete values
- Existing strength and count attribute types will be inactivated, replaced with new ones using the same FSNs.
- New Inferred "Relationship Concrete Values" files:
- New concrete values relationship files added to the RF2 package structure, containing all new relationships for values of strength and count for medical products:
- sct2_RelationshipConcreteValues_Delta_US1000124_20210901.txt
- sct2_RelationshipConcreteValues_Full_US1000124_20210901.txt
- sct2_RelationshipConcreteValues_Snapshot_US1000124_20210901.txt
- New concrete values relationship files added to the RF2 package structure, containing all new relationships for values of strength and count for medical products:
- MRCM file changes:
- MRCM includes new rows to indicate that the new attribute types are expected to take a concrete domain - specifically numbers - as target values.
- Inferred Relationship file changes:

- Implementers are encouraged to update to the new edition, however, they are NOT obliged to do so as the concept modelling and identifiers are not being modified.
- The entirety of these changes will also be incorporated into the upcoming July 2020 International Edition Release.

Version: 20180331
Release Date: April 3, 2018
The SNOMED CT Odontogram release is a reference set (refset) developed from 2015-2017 as a tool to exchange basic oral health status information between dental clinicians using a standardized format and to support gathering of research and quality data based on the most common visualizations for clinicians worldwide. The purpose of the refset is twofold: 1) it is designed to identify a set of core content that can realistically be exchanged for an odontogram and 2) a small set may allow Electronic Dental Record (EDR) vendors and the dental payer community to move quickly and inexpensively implement tools that will allow for their use. The odontogram refset contains primarily terms from four of the SNOMED CT hierarchies: The most common one is Procedures, but it also includes several Body Structures and some Findings and Disorders.

SNOMED CT Odontogram Refset Package
Release Date: October 2017
Version: July 2017
Release Notes: The SNOMED CT Odontogram release is a reference set (refset) developed from 2015-2017 as a tool to exchange basic oral health status information between dental clinicians using a standardized format and to support gathering of research and quality data based on the most common visualizations for clinicians worldwide. The purpose of the refset is twofold: 1)it is designed to identify a set of core content that can realistically be exchanged for an odontogram and 2)a small set may allow Electronic Dental Record (EDR) vendors and the dental payer community to move quickly and inexpensively implement tools that will allow for their use. The odontogram refset contains primarily terms from four of the SNOMED CT hierarchies: The most common one is Procedures, but it also includes several Body Structures and some Findings and Disorders.

ICNP to SNOMED CT Interventions Release
Release Date: March 2017
Version: January 2017
Release Notes: The International Classification of Nursing Practice (ICNP) to SNOMED CT International Release Nursing Interventions equivalency table is a product of an ongoing program of work carried out under a pre-existing collaboration agreement between the International Council of Nurses (ICN) and the SNOMED CT International (SI). The initial effort centered on nursing diagnoses, specifically problems. The focus of this release document is on the identification of SNOMED CT equivalencies for ICNP nursing interventions. The table of equivalence provides a vehicle for transforming ICNP-encoded data into SNOMED CT (e.g. an ICNP concept in a local system can be transformed via the table to the equivalent SNOMED CT concept for use in a multidisciplinary record). By providing a robust pathway from ICNP to SNOMED CT, the table of equivalence helps to ensure that users of ICNP can continue to use their preferred terminology while remaining a central part of the bigger picture and wider implementation of SNOMED CT globally.
Please Note: Users of the table should comply with licensing arrangements for both ICN and SNOMED International.
