This poster includes two photographs. The top image shows a local party official giving Mao Zedong’s books as presents to newlyweds during a wedding. The bottom shows a barefoot doctor promoting family planning in the field amongst a group of women.

About the Collection

This collection of family planning posters from 1977 solidify the role of family planning in the building of a socialist Chinese society. Largely featuring women and occasionally quotations from Mao Zedong, these posters exemplify the politicization of family planning in 1970s China.
