1908: Government hires medical workers to fight tuberculosis
The Office of Indian Affairs hires part-time field matrons, who are trained in home economics, to work with Native peoples living on reservations to reduce the spread of tuberculosis. Nurses and medical doctors are also hired and assigned to some reservations to fight the disease.
