1909: Queen seeks to help Hawaiian orphans
Queen Liliu‘okalani establishes a third Ali‘i Trust, dedicating her land and money to build an institution for the benefit of orphaned Hawaiian children, with preference given to those “of pure or part aboriginal blood.” In 1911, the Queen amends her Deed of Trust to include destitute children as well.
