Status Update: NCBI Taxonomy New Prokaryote Phylum Names. NLM Tech Bull. 2023 Mar-Apr;(451):e8.
As previously announced, we are making changes to prokaryote phylum names in accordance with the recent inclusion of rank "phylum" in the International Code of Nomenclature for Prokaryotes (ICNP). We have made major progress, completing most of the proposed changes.
The taxonomy browser, taxonomy FTP files, and records displayed on the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) website are now showing the new phylum names.
We are still updating bacterial data distributed on the FTP site. It may take a few more months to finish updating all these files. During this time, taxonomy information that appears in .gbff and .gpff format files in the following FTP directories may not reflect the new phylum names:
