Geographic Subjects and Table G
- Table G information is recorded as part of the call number in $a of the 060 or 096 fields
- When using a geographic subject in a bibliographic record, and the classification number allows for Table G breakdown, a Table G cutter corresponding to the geographic subject should be used (Cf. Using Medical Subject Headings (MeSH®) in Cataloging: Module 5—Geographicals)
- Example:
- A work on women’s health in Israel
- 060 00 $a WA 309 JI9
- 650 12 $a Women’s Health
- 651 2 $a Israel
- A work on women’s health in Israel
- For numbers that provide both Table G/Not Table G options, if a geographic subject is not used, select the classification number annotated "Not Table G"
- A work that discusses one country primarily, and one or two other countries secondarily, is classified with the appropriate Table G geographic cutter for the predominant country
- AA1 is used for materials that span four or more states or territories, unless there is a number for the region
- A work that discusses more than three countries is classified in the "Not Table G" number, if no one country predominates and a broader jurisdiction is not used
- Examples:
- A work on women’s health in the 21st century
- 060 00 $a WA 309.1
- 650 12 $a Women’s Health
