3: Exchange Standards

Content exchange standards are the sets of rules that define how messages are structured and packaged to transfer information from one system to another.

By the end of this module, you will be able to:

  • Identify the role of Health Level Seven International (HL7) in the development of health data standards.
  • Define the characteristics of each of the below standards that enable interoperability, and explain how the standard is used today:
    • Version 2 (V2)
    • Clinical Document Architecture (CDA)
    • Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources (FHIR)
