Charles D. O'Malley, ca. 1969
Charles Donald O’Malley (1907–1970) was a distinguished medical historian and a leading authority on Renaissance anatomy. In 1964, he published a definitive biography of 16th-century physician, Andreas Vesalius.
O‘Malley earned his doctorate at Stanford University, where he worked as a professor and published more than 20 papers related to the life and work of Andreas Vesalius, the founder of modern anatomy. In 1959, he became a professor of medical history at the University of California at Los Angeles Department of Anatomy and years later, headed the then recently established Department of Medical History.
